In the demeaning tone of the book and our country, you can tell that Max Barry realizes that we are on a dangerous path of consumerism in our country and if we don't stop, this is an extreme that can happen. Everything revolves around money and you can't do anything without it. This is so true in so many ways, our planet has become dependent on money. So, with this being true, it’s only a matter of time till greed for power and money disrupt the governmental system we rely on today and everything gets messed up. Just like in the book; we couldn't stop crime, call ambulances, get the simple pair of shoes. All would go to hell. I think that Max's purpose was to get in our heads how being such blind stupid consumerists will eventually destroy us.
